Sword of the Stars Technical Support FAQ
The place to check on all current Technical Support issues and log new requests for assistance is the Official Kerberos Productions Technical Support Forum.
It has been noted that several issues arise quite often on the Forum as new players find the game and encounter problems either with a specific version of the game or with various Operating Systems.
Hence this FAQ page.
Operating Systems
Known Operating System issues with Microsoft Windows XP (WinXP) Microsoft Windows Vista (Vista).
Microsoft Windows Vista
The following are known issues with installation of Sword of the Stars on Microsoft Windows Vista (Vista).
- Sword of the Stars was developed for WinXP and not specifically for Vista. It does not have support for the file and registry virtualization used by Vista to both protect system directories from users and allow users to individualize their own specific profiles.
- The recommended action on Vista is to install to a "\Games\Sword of the Stars" folder outside of the file and registry virtualization protections. This is especially recommended if you are intending to run or develop Mods.
- Sword of the Stars was developed for DirectX version 9 and requires updated DirectX components.
- Vista does not have DirectX version 9 installed by default, which means that you may have to install it separately and /or update it to the most current version of DirectX 9.
